Posted in Life in Chicago by Cristina on 27 Oct 2016

The Chicago Cubs are a professional American baseball team which plays its home games at Wrigley Field, located on the North Side. The South Side of the city are traditionally supporters of the Chicago White Sox with their home at U.S. Cellular Field.

Those of you who are in Chicago now must have recently seen tons of white flags with W on them everywhere in the city and around it. What does this flag symbolize and what does W stand for?

First of all, the flag is known as the Cubs Win Flag and it is a victory flag which is flown at Wrigley Field after every Cubs home win. This flag has various names, you can hear someone calling it "The Cubs W flag", "The Cubs win flag", "The Chicago Cubs Win flag" and so on. Every fan hangs the Cubs Banner Flag in his house or in the window, that is why you can see so many of them now everywhere.

The Cubs ended the 2016 regular season with a record of 103-58, the first time they have won over 100 games in a season since 1910! They advanced to the NLDS (National League Division Series) to face the wild card Giants, and defeated them in four games. The Cubs then clinched the pennant for the first time since 1945 by defeating the Dodgers 4–2.

On October 25, 2016 the Chicago Cubs played against Cleveland Indians and lost 0:6. However, they met again the following day and this time they beat Indians 5:1. These two games were played in Cleveland and now the Cubs are coming back home to play a series of games at Wrigley Field.
